Workout: 4 easy miles

Time: 36:56 – 9:29, 9:16, 8:58, 9:10

So, today was a cautious attempt at getting back to running after a week long bout with back pain.  So, with the cautious cadence of a 70 year old going to complete a 100 mile ultra marathon, I started my run.  Shuffling along, I felt awkward and out of touch, but it felt good to at least be moving forward.  After the first mile and first big hill, I felt somewhat normal again, so I allowed myself to explore a new direction today, and see where it took me.  Well, it took me to a negative split.  Good deal.  Onto the next mile…feeling looser, feeling good…another negative split!  Alright, buddy, time to slow yourself down…the purpose of today’s run is to ease slowly back into your running, not to injure you back again.  And so I backed off some, and had a positive split of 9:10.

Overall, not a bad run at all.  Gave me a confidence boost to know that last week’s back pain wasn’t season ending…just a (hopefully) temporary adjustment to the physical therapy I’m doing right now.  The weather wasn’t bad…still no sun (2 weeks and counting), but at least it was dry and warm.  Can’t really complain too much I suppose.  And I gotta say, my Garmin missed me.  To show it’s thanks for me turning it back on, it found the satellites in record time!  Thank you, my friend, my running partner, my Garmin.  We’ll have to see how tomorrow’s PT treats me.

My question to all of you is, what kind of injuries / annoying aches and pains are you dealing with now, and how are they affecting your running and overall outlook on things?  I look forward to hearing from you!

Run on friends!
