Neptune City Day 5K FinishDay: Saturday

Workout: 5K Race

Time: 36:30

So Saturday I ran the Neptune City Day 5K.  I run this race every year…except for last year when I was injured.  Some years I run it for time, others I just run it to run it.  This year I ran it with my girlfriend, and it was her first 5K.  It’s funny…she’s run 2 half marathons, is training for a third, but this was her first 5K.  I felt she did really well.  It was pretty humid, and definitely not cool out.  Within a half mile we were covered it sweat.  But, we stuck to our plan.  We ran the first 1.25 miles (to the first water stop), then started run / walking (run 2, walk 1) until the last quarter mile, then we ran the last quarter.  It was a good time.  My friend and his fiance and her mom ran it as well…they beat us by like 30 seconds.  After that we headed to the beach…

Day: Monday

Workout: 5 miles

Time: 41:00 (8:06, 8:00, 8:30, 7:56, 8:48)

So because I didn’t get a long run in this weekend like I had planned, I wanted to do around 6-7.  I didn’t really have a route planned out, so I just headed out the door and figured I’d see where my legs took me.  I headed down the road to where I usually turn around after one mile, but this time just kept going.  Turned up this long hilly (mostly uphill) road, then down a flat and downhill road, then back down another road which led back to the first road.  At that point I realized my new loop wasn’t taking me for 6 or 7, but I felt with the amount of hills and the speed I was going it was just as good a workout.  After the run I ended up walking an extra half mile.  I tend to go where my legs take me, and today they took me all the way around my complex.  I guess I needed the extra cool down.

Well, that sums up the past 2 runs.  Gotta get a couple more good ones in this week I hope, including a weekend long run.  Hopefully I should have a date soon for the baseball game, and I’ll post it as soon as I have it.  So, here’s to getting through another week.  Run on friends!
