Rough and Wet 12 Miler

Workout: 12 Miles

Time: 1:52

Weather: Rainy

Today was probably the most unhappy 12 miler I’ve ever done.  I’m glad I got through it, but it was not a happy time.  First, it rained the whole time.  But I figured, running at the Towpath, I’d have to tree cover to keep my dry.  Wrong.  I got even larger rain drops on me because they collected on the leaves and THEN fell on me.  By the end of the run I was soaked.  I literally was able to ring water out of my shirt.  Second, I had to carry a Gatorade bottle with me.  I do not like carrying things with me at all.  It just throws me entire run off balance.  Third, my legs just felt tired today…not sure why, but they just did.

The first 8 miles weren’t bad…not easy, but I wasn’t really struggling.  Averaged around 8:45 per mile…slower than I wanted, but with the rain and the Gatorade bottle I accepted it.  However, mile 9 I started to feel a bit tired and a bit disoriented.  Luckily, the end of mile 9 was my scheduled stop for Gatorade and Powergel.  However, getting started again did not go well.  For some reason my body just did not want to run anymore.  So the last 3 miles I ended up taking a 0.1 mile walk break every half mile.  So my pace dropped from around 8:45 per mile to around 10:15 per mile.  Not ideal at all.  True, I did still get the distance in, but the run was just not what I was hoping for.  Luckily, it’s the last long run before the race in two weeks.  I can only hope it won’t be running.

In any case, no running tomorrow, but I’ll try to run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, then a 7 miler on Saturday.  We’ll see how it goes.

Until then, run on friends!

P.S.  I’m gonna try to do another video on Wednesday, with some pretty exciting news!  Stay tuned!a

Workout: 4.5 Miles

Time: 37:20

Weather: Hot and Humid

So today was another hot and humid day.  So I said to myself, where should I go running?  Well, I don’t want to run on roads, because I wanna make sure I don’t hurt my leg again.  And I don’t want to run at the park at North Brunswick, because the wind on the back mile of the loop is just brutal.  So what do I decide on?  Oh yes, the hot and humid, jungle like Tow Path, that’s what.  I love sweating profusely.  Ha.

So yeah, did 4.5.  I had to stop at .2 because my Garmin for some reason had set itself to bike mode, so it wasn’t showing the normal info that it normally shows.  All fixed, I took off.  First 2.5 miles were pretty good, around a 7:55 pace.  The last 2, well, a little slower…like an 8:40 pace.  But…the Garmin shows what your fastest pace was each mile.  That’s where the good stuff comes in…I had 4 of the 5 splits with a “best” pace of under 7 minutes.  The best was a 5:24 during the first mile.  That’s because people were out there so I ran faster to make it look like I was hardcore.  Ha!

Anyway, all in all it was a good workout.  Lookin to get another 2-3 in before the long run this Sunday.  Should be easy enough to do, especially with 5K I’m running on Saturday.

Well, that’s it for now.  I am exhausted.  Until next time…

Run on friends!
